Angela Turner, nuora del tycoon della CNN Ted, è stata a Napoli per una vacanza di tre giorni. Lei, architetto italo-americana, console italiano ad Atlanta per 10 anni, avrebbe voluto godersi le bellezze della città e invece solo 3 minuti dopo l'uscita dall'autostrada, mentre percorreva in macchina via Marina, ha subito un tentativo di furto. Angela, dalle pagine di Fanpage.it, ha deciso di scrivere una lettera indirizzata al sindaco Luigi De Magistris.

Caro sindaco,
sono Angela e dopo 3 minuti che ero nella sua città, mi hanno aggredita. In due, su uno scooter, mi hanno assalita per prendermi l'orologio. Ho combattuto, mi hanno ferito, ma quell'orologio l'ho tenuto. Però, mi è venuta voglia di scriverle.

Sono nata in Italia, ma sono cittadina americana. E da tanti anni avevo un sogno. Infranto in tre minuti. Volevo vedere Napoli, le sue ricchezze, le sue bellezze, la sua cultura, le sue stranezze. Ero a Roma e quando ricevetti un messaggio del mio amico Giorgio che mi invitava a Napoli, mi è sembrato un segno del destino. E sono partita. In auto, con la mia auto, un'auto vistosa, lo ammetto. A Giorgio non ho detto nulla, qualche mio amico mi aveva avvisato: "Non portarti quell'auto. E non indossare neanche nulla di prezioso o di appariscente. Sai, quella è Napoli". No, mi sono detta, quella è una città europea, tanti amici ci sono stati, e se ne sono innamorati. Perché non dovrei essere me stessa?

Così ho preso la mia auto, e ho indossato i miei vestiti e il mio orologio. Come ogni giorno. E volevo andare a Napoli.

Non le sto qua a dire quanto traumatico e scioccante sia stato per me, una donna sola, in uno città sconosciuta, aver dovuto combattere e urlare per lunghissimi attimi contro due persone che mi hanno messo le mani addosso, per portarmi via quello che è mio. A Napoli. Dopo 3 minuti.

Però le voglio scrivere perché lei è stato appena rieletto. E voglio chiederle quando Napoli diventerà una città europea, una città dove tutti possono essere quello che sono. Dove chiunque può prendere il mezzo che vuole, vestirsi come vuole, e venire da voi, a trovare un amico, a passare del tempo. Senza paura, senza aggressioni, senza violenza.

Io vivo a New York, e lei lo sa quella città 20 anni fa era peggio di Napoli. Il suo omologo lì era Rudolph Giuliani, ora New York è una città sicura. E io ci vado in giro vestita come voglio, con l'auto che voglio. Come fece? Tolleranza zero, partendo dai piccoli reati, dalle piccole infrazioni, dai biglietti della metro e dalla cura dell'arredo urbano.

Nella sua città ci sono stata solo 48 ore, e con amarezza le dico che avrei voluto rimanerci di più. Sono andata al teatro San Carlo, a Marechiaro, ho visto la vostra metro, il centro storico, il lungomare… che meraviglia. E in questo breve tempo ho anche toccato con mano quanto voi napoletani, siate gente in gamba. Come i dirigenti della Polizia di Stato Michele Maria Spina e Giovanni Monaco che mi hanno aiutata e sostenuta. 

Lo so sindaco che lei non è responsabile di tutto. Ma io a qualcuno dovevo scrivere. Non voglio odiare odiare questa città, perché è troppo bella. Ma io le chiedo: riuscirà Napoli a risorgere come New York? Riuscirà lei a vincere questa guerra e a regalare finalmente al mondo una città libera, sicura, europea?

Io, caro sindaco, voglio tornare. Mi dica lei quando.

Lady CNN robbed just after 3 minutes from her arrival in Naples writes a letter to the city mayor

Angela Turner, former Italian consul in the USA, and daughter-in-law of the CNN tycoon Ted Turner tells the misadventure she went through on her arrival in Naples and writes to the city mayor: “I whish I could come back here and be my self, is it possible?”

Angela Turner, daughter-in-law of the CNN tycoon Ted, went on holiday in Naples for three days. Italian-American architect and Italian consul in Atlanta for 10 years, she wanted to enjoy the beauty of the city, instead, just after leaving the highway, a few minutes later, while driving along Via Marina, some men tried to rob her. Angela decided to write a letter to mayor Luigi De Magistris through Fanpage.it.

Dear mayor,

my name is Angela and after three minutes in your city I was victim of an aggression. Two men on a scooter tried to steal my watch. I fought against them, they hurt me, but I manged to keep my watch. However I’ve decided to write to you.

I was born in Italy, but I am an American Citizen. I’ve always had a dream which broke down in three minutes. I wanted to see Naples with all its history, beauty, culture and strageness. I was in Rome when I got a message form my friend Giorgio inviting me in Naples and thought that this was a sign of fate. So I left Rome to go to Naples by car, with my car, which is flashy car I have to admit. I didn’t tell anything to Giorgio, some friends of mine warned me: “Don’t go with that car. Don’t wear anything valuable or flashy. That’s Naples you know”. But I told my self that was not possible, Naples is a European city, many friends have been there and fell in love with it. Why shouldn’t I be my self?

So I took my car and wore my clothes and my watch, as I do eveyday, and I wanted to go to Naples.

I’m not going to tell you how traumatic and shocking it was for me to be alone in an city I did not know, fighting and shouting for a long time against two people who attacked me and tried to stole what was mine. In Naples. After three minutes.

However I want to write it down becaus you have just been elected again. And I want to ask you when will Naples become a European city, a city where people can be just as they are. Where people can take the means of transport that they want, wore what they want and come here to see a friend and spend some time. With no fear, no aggressions, no violence.

I live in New York and you know that my city was worse than Naples 20 years ago. Your homologous there was Rudolph Giuliani, now New York is a safe city. I go around dressed as I want, with the car I want. How did he manage to do this? With no tollerance, starting form the small crimes such as paying the ticket for the underground and taking care of the urban structures.

I spent 48 hours in your city and I regret saying that I wanted to stay more. I went to Teatro San Carlo, to Marechiaro, I saw the underground, the city centre, the seafront…it was wonderful. During this short period of time I also learned that Neapolitans are great people. Just like Michele Maria Spina and Giovanni Monaco, the Chiefs of the Police who helped and supported me.

I know that you are not responsible for all this. But I had to write to somebody. I don’t want to hate this city, because it is too beautiful. Nevertheless I’ll ask you: will Naples ever succede in raising as New York did? Will you manage to win this war and give the world a free, safe and European city?

Dear mayor, I want to come back, just tell me when.
